Healing Spleen Dampness & Hormonal Breakouts

Healing Spleen Dampness & Hormonal Breakouts

By Amanda Beisel

A guide to restoring inner balance, digestive fire, and clear, radiant skin.

What Is Spleen Dampness?

In Chinese Medicine, your Spleen is not just a physical organ — it represents your digestive strength, the ability to transform food into energy and distribute nourishment throughout the body.

When the Spleen becomes weak, “dampness” can accumulate.
Dampness is a form of internal stagnation — thick, sticky, heavy energy that can manifest as:

  • Breakouts, especially around the chin or near the cycle
  • Puffiness, bloating, or water retention
  • Fatigue after meals
  • Brain fog or sluggish digestion
  • Cravings for sugar or dairy

How Dampness Affects the Skin

In the skin, dampness appears as congestion, cystic acne, or inflammation.
When combined with heat or hormonal fluctuations, this “sticky damp” traps toxins under the surface, leading to deep breakouts — especially if dairy or processed foods are consumed.

Clearing dampness is therefore both an internal and external process — cleansing the body’s terrain so the skin can reflect balance and clarity.

STEP 1 — Strengthen Your Digestive Fire

Think of your digestion like a warm fire that “cooks” your food into energy.
When you eat cold, raw, or heavy foods, it’s like throwing ice on that fire.

To strengthen your digestive fire:

  • Choose warm, cooked meals over raw salads or smoothies.
  • Drink warm water or tea instead of iced beverages.
  • Avoid heavy, cold, or creamy foods (especially dairy).
  • Eat smaller, more frequent meals (4–5 per day) rather than large ones.
  • Eat mindfully and calmly — avoid multitasking or rushing.

Warming, aromatic spices gently stoke digestion:
Ginger • Turmeric • Fennel • Caraway • Mustard seed • Saffron

Warming yellow & orange foods nourish the Spleen:
Carrots • Squash • Yams • Parsnips • Sweet potatoes

STEP 2 — Clear the Dampness

Once you stop creating new dampness, it’s time to help the body clear what’s lingering.

Bitter & fibrous foods help drain dampness:
Kale • Dandelion greens • Mustard greens • Celery • Parsley • Lemon or orange peel zest • Turnip • Radish • Broccoli • Asparagus

Draining grains & beans:
Aduki beans • Job’s Tears (Coix seed) • Quinoa • Amaranth

Osmosis Support System (Dr. Ben Johnson Protocol):

  • Skin Clarifier: Targets mucus (dampness) within the GI tract and lymphatic system, helping clear internal congestion that leads to breakouts.
  • Skin Perfection Elixir: Balances Candida and yeast overgrowth that thrive in sticky, damp environments.
  • Digestive iAd (Fiber): Acts like an internal broom, sweeping out mucus and debris as the body clears dampness.

This trio works synergistically to purify the internal terrain so the skin can rebalance and heal.

STEP 3 — Move the Qi & Circulation

Movement is essential for clearing stagnation.
Qi and blood flow keep your internal waters moving and your skin glowing.

Try:

  • A daily 20-minute walk (especially after meals)
  • Rebounding or gentle yoga
  • Breathwork or mindful stretching
  • Anything that makes you feel circulated and alive

This isn’t about calorie burning — it’s about helping your body detoxify naturally and maintain energetic flow.

STEP 4 — Lifestyle & Mindful Habits

  • Sleep 7–9 hours — your digestive organs repair overnight.
  • Manage stress — overthinking directly weakens Spleen energy.
  • Avoid eating late at night when digestion slows.
  • Keep your feet and abdomen warm — avoid exposure to cold drafts.

STEP 5 — Support Through Treatment & Herbs

In-Clinic Support:

  • Facial & Body Acupuncture to tonify the Spleen, move Qi, and calm hormonal fluctuations.
  • Vitamin A Infusion Peel + internal detox support for skin renewal.

Herbal Support (optional):

  • Licorice Root, Ginger, Dandelion Root, or Burdock can gently aid detox and digestion.
